ERA-NET Transport Coordination

ERA-NET TRANSPORT offers a platform for cooperation and coordination over the full spectrum of transport and transport technology research. However, it places particular emphasis on policy related issues. In this respect the function of ERA-NET ROAD will be different to ERA-NET TRANSPORT. ERA-NET ROAD will add value by focusing specifically on research relating to the operation and management of the strategic road networks and not deal with either policy related research or other transport modes.

ERA-NET ROAD will comprise organisations that have specific responsibilities for research undertaken in relation to operation, maintenance and upgrading of strategic road networks, only one of which is a participant in ERA-NET TRANSPORT. The ERA-NET ROAD partners have identified that they require a mechanism for increasing collaboration between their research programmes, but currently do not have the resources to implement it successfully. This, along with the difference in focus, objectives and partners with ERA-NET TRANSPORT show that it does not provide the necessary network required for the activities proposed in ERA-NET ROAD.

However, because the two networks will complement each other, ERA-NET ROAD will seek close contact with and build on the experience of ERA-NET TRANSPORT in order to cooperate where appropriate, avoid duplication and add value to both networks. A specific task will be established to develop a close relationship with ERA-NET TRANSPORT. This task will be agreed with ERA-NET TRANSPORT.
